About Us

I took over the shop, Shindhelm Piano House as it was then called, on 1st April 1999.

The company has a long history with pianos. Mr. Shindhelm’s father had a piano factory in East Germany before World War II.
In 1951 the family moved to South Africa to help Mr. Dietman in his piano workshop. This later became the piano factory in Wellington where they started building new pianos in the mid fifties.

In 1954 Mr. George Shindhelm left the company to build a business of his own. In the late sixties he obtained school contracts from the then Cape Department for Schools.

Shortly afterwards, he opened a shop in Bellville. I started working for the company in May 1973 after training at the School for the Blind as a piano tuner technician. I worked there until 1979.

Before taking over the shop in 1999 I worked from home and opened a workshop in Goodwood.

After a few years of owning the shop, I found that the place became too crowded, so when the shop next door was vacated, I obtained those premises as well.
I linked the two shops with an arch and started selling other musical instruments in addition to pianos.

At the moment the stock is growing nicely, with a good supply of wind instruments, violins, guitars, both acoustic and electrical, with amplifiers, drums and an assortment of smaller instruments and accessories.
We even stock piano accordions and concertinas, and what we do not have on hand, we order for our customers.
